Each lamp is cultivated in Myceen’s lab in Estonia, where a team of scientists and designers meticulously oversee every stage of growth. The method involves precise monitoring and skilled craftsmanship throughout the entire process. Over several weeks, the mycelium’s growth is carefully guided by Myceen’s team.

The natural mycelium material, complemented by aluminium details, evokes a sense of organic elegance.

The lampshade consists of two parts, which are first molded separately. These parts are then assembled, allowing the fungi to recognise its specie companion and grow the connecting edges together strongly, without glue or chemicals.

Raw aluminium

The aluminium details are left uncoated and glass bead blasted to create a raw satin matte finish. This approach makes the aluminium elements more efficient to produce and easier to recycle, while allowing the material to develop a beautiful, natural patina over time.

Safe material

Myceen’s mycelium-based material does not contain any synthetic additives that could compromise indoor air quality. By using specialised drying technique, the growth of mycelium is completely halted, ensuring the products are safe for both people and buildings.
